Welcome to ShopWhittier.com; come in and have a look around at our new Site. You are now reading our first article as we launch our new online magazine and business directory for the City of Whittier. It has been quite a project to create a much needed Internet publication, the purpose of which is to provide information about Whittier and the wonderful treasures it has to offer.
As we grow, we are adding new content and making many changes, daily. Our mission is to create a Site that consumers can turn to for information about shopping and events in Whittier. Along with creative advertising, the site will be fun and entertaining with lots of colorful photographs to keep you coming back to the site.
A Place to get Information
Specifically, this site will provide information about businesses, non-profit organizations, places to go, things to do, and, in general all about the City of Whittier, and what it has to offer. We are starting with a focus in Uptown Whittier, although our intention is to create a city-wide shopping guide. In due time, we hope the entire city will be contributing to the Site as it grows.
Business Owners Tell Their Story
Business owners will have the opportunity to tell stories about their special products and unique services. How did their business come about? What is their passion? What kinds of solutions to consumer's problems do they offer? Advertising packages will provide opportunities to highlight businesses, products or services with photography and written information. This is a great opportunity for businesses to get exposure and create an image.
Storytelling
At this time, you can find the Profiles of several Uptown Whittier businesses in the Featured Businesses section. As you can see, we have a lot of photography accompanied by text. The Profiles are interesting and informative, and geared to elicit emotions from the reader. You can't help but be hungry when you see the food, laugh when you see a family engaged in play in their store or feel nostalgic when looking at toys from the past. It's more about storytelling than the traditional advertisement. Whittier has a lot to offer, and we hope to cover a good deal of it at ShopWhittier.com.
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Part of the entertainment offered at ShopWhittier.com will be photographs and stories of local points of interest, parks, museums, the Greenway Trail, the hills, nature, architecture, and local events, just to name a few. We will also include Photo Essays, covering a wide variety of subjects. We are primarily a photo driven site, so if we write about it, you can be sure there will be no shortage of images. Besides, doesn’t a picture say a thousand words?
Non-profits and Charities are Included
Non-profits and charities may create a free listing in the Business Directory with their contact information, and may also be featured on our Site. Do you have an event coming up that the public would be interested in reading about? Let us know, or better yet send us a press release and we will do our best to be there to take a few photos.
No Need to Leave Town

There is no longer a need to go out of town to get beautiful cookware and high quality, Sometimes, you come to learn that your favorite kind of store cannot be found within your community, or that some kinds of stores are only found in tourist areas. So you get in your car and drive half way across Los Angeles or Orange County to enjoy a store that has that special something. Whether it is unusual toys or high quality cookware, we want Whittier to be the destination where people can find those unique specialty stores, like kitchen appliances and cookware. You were thinking you could only do that at the mall, weren't you? There are really good toys from around the world right on Greenleaf Avenue. You can even get limited edition "Hello Kitty" merchandise, old fashioned fudge, or real life portraits done on location, right here in town. You will also find vintage music, costumes, baby clothing, fine wines, unique restaurants, and an art deco movie theater with six screens - and free parking in back!

A Grass Roots Movement
ShopWhittier.com is a grass roots movement and a collaborative effort. Our immediate goal is to help improve the image of Uptown Whittier, to bring back consumers who have gone out of town to shop, and help foster a unique environment that is classic Uptown. Local businesses will be allowed free listings on the Site and, soon, there will be upgrades available for those listings. We will be offering lots of marketing opportunities for retailers and service businesses in Whittier. It is in our plan to see Uptown Whittier grow to be a better shopping experience with better stores, specialty shops, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and entertainment.
