More Good Things in Small Packages

The best things come in small packages. As we peruse Uptown Whittier for more little surprises, we find that this is more and more the case.

The China Wall Restaurant is located off the beaten track on Bailey Street just East of Greenleaf Avenue. It is unassuming from the outside, but once you enter, it has a comfortable elegance about it. You can come casual or dressy – it all works.

Lots of Favorites on the Menu

The biggest thing here, by far, is the menu. It's hard to imagine how they have room to store all the food that is listed on the menu.  They have all the favorites you have come to expect on a Chinese menu, such as Mu-Shoo, Sweet and Sour, and Won Ton dishes. In addition, they have over a dozen varieties of noodle dishes.

Quality from Kitchen to Table

This is a family owned restaurant. They are closed on Mondays – but as we have seen them stocking their kitchen on Mondays, they aren't resting, even then. They are closed in the afternoons between lunch and dinner, as are many ethnic and owner-operated restaurants. And since China Wall is family owned, you know that someone always stands by the quality, from the kitchen right to your table.

Kevin and his wife wait the tables, personally. They work very hard to make sure that your dining experience is excellent and that the food is delicious. Contrary to what we have come to expect from chain restaurants, the food always prepared to the highest standards, each and every time we have visited The China Wall Restaurant. There is never a dirty fork or even the slightest flaw in the food.

Surprising Sweet and Sour

Just to mention one dish in particular, I shared a plate of Sweet and Sour Pork with my Mom at China Wall one day. We were not surprised that it tasted good, but we were very pleasantly surprised at the lightness of the crunchy breading on the pork. China Wall's high quality rendition of this Cantonese dish is far over and above an “Americanized” version that has way too much breading.

You can't go wrong in choosing China Wall for a bit elegance and high quality, great tasting food served in a clean and professionally run environment.
