Wheat grass is likely one of the healthiest drinks you can put into your body and you can find it at Fenix 5-4, a new, healthy organic eatery and deli in Uptown Whittier, owned by Kyle Koestner and Johnny Nixon.

Hellman Park Trailhead

The Hellman Park Trailhead can be found one block north of Beverly Blvd on Greenleaf Avenue, just a few blocks north of Uptown Whittier. There is a small parking lot next to the water tank and you can't miss the trailhead map that will be your guide as you hike through the many trails. Starting at Hellman Park you have options to hike Hellman Park Trail, Peppergrass Trail and Mariposa Trail to Rattlesnake Ridge Trail at the top of the hill. The trails intersect each other for a 2.9 mile loop.

The Greenway Trail in Whittier

The Greenway Trail is a five mile long bicycle and pedestrian trail in Whittier that was built in place of an unused railroad right-of-way owned by Union Pacific. It runs between Norwalk Boulevard and Mills Avenue; quite a length of it is largely visible from Lambert Road between Painter and Mills Avenues.

Changes in Whittier are in the works, despite the nation's economic crunch.

It’s undoubtedly true that the changes or progress mentioned in this article were planned long before our current economic crunch. However, they are great examples of using economic “downtime” as an opportunity for change. When businesses make big changes, like remodels, they often experience temporary closures or slowing of business while resources are channeled into the changes. If it’s a new business, hopefully the completion is just in time for the reversal of an economic slump.
